Neat, George.

I remember reading ads like that in old National Geographics when I was a kid collecting newspapers and magazines to recycle for the money. I'd cull the NG's, keep them in my room, at least until my mom swept through periodically and tossed them.

I told her once that I would have become wealthy selling all my old childhood "stuff" to collectors if she hadn't kept throwing it all away. Her response was that since I couldn't keep my room clean, I didn't deserve to be wealthy. :)

In WW I and WW II, when the priority was maximum production of critical items, it was common for the government to arrange for other companies to produce an item under license. In the case of Winchester, however, there was a prior relationship, as the Browning .50 was developed while Browning was doing work with Winchester.

"Browning and the Winchester engineers also developed the Browning .50 caliber machine gun during the war (WWI). The caliber.50 ammunition for it was designed by the Winchester ballistic engineers." Indopedia, Winchester Rifle
