AutoDesk Inventor 2009 Question!!!

I am currently working for my dad. We use a 3D CAD program, Alibre, for design work for our products. My father knowing that I am enrolled at Westlawn knows that I need AutoCAD LT or AutoCAD 2009, but both of those programs are not capable of doing 3D assemblies like Alibre does. AutoCAD Inventor does, but I am wondering if I can design the yachts needed for Westlawn on Inventor or do I need AutoCAD? Hopefully there is someone out there with expierence in Inventor and I hope this question is clear.

I don't know very much about Alibre, but if it lets you make 2D drawings and export as dwf, dxf, or dwgs, you probably don't need autocad. Also I believe inventor still requires autocad to work in 2D, so you can't avoid buying it to make proper 2D drawings.

For anyone doing something like Westlawn I would recommend just getting Rhino. While it isn't the best piece of software for doing everything, however, it is the best for some things, it can do a little of everything else, and the price is right.

As I understand it if you buy Inventor you get Autocad included, but if Alibre is working for you then just stay with that. Alibre is a cheaper competitor to Inventor, Solidworks, Solid Edge, Pro E etc. I'm sure its is dwg compatible.

Inventor allows create 2d Drawings as file *.idw and *.dwg. There isn't necessery to have Autocad ( but I think it's included to Inventor Package).
It's quite good to make assemblies and other staff, but it isn't good program to design hulls.
