Hi,
I am a student technical engineering and I am doing a project at my university. I have to design a boom for a TP42. (weight 4500kg, max righting moment: 50kn*m, mainsail 62m^2.)
I have some questions:
Is sailing downwind the worst case scenario for a boom, when the main sheet only takes a small part of the vertical load from the main? Like displayed in image 1.
Are the calculations of the forces on the boom as displayed in image 2 reasonable for a TP42?
Many thanks in advance.
