Hi All,
I would like to built a boat of LLDPE/HDPE plastic material made using roto-moulding process. To do that i need diagram and understaing of how to make boat mould to make plastic boat. Please help me to understand baout how boat sails and the principles of making boat.
The type of boat is normal boat and the proposed size is 2 metres wide 6 meters long and height as proposed by you friends so that it can sail.
Please help me, appreciate all the efforts and help by you guys.
Thanks a lot,
Gaurang.:)
There are several yacht design course available around the world. Chemical and structural engineering speciation can be had at most universities and better colleges. This is what you need. Thee are no roto-molded homebuilt boat plans available currently, and understandably so.

Unless you are going into production, Roto Moulding is not commercially viable. A mould alone for this size craft would be many tens of thousands of dollars.
You are best to create the desired craft using traditional techniques, until you can foresee large design runs.

Thanks for your help, but i still want to know the principle of boat floating on water and the relativety of boat dimension i.e. how boat sail on the surface of water with size of the boat inter related.

Thanks for your reply too(rwatson), but if i can create a design of a boat which will be like 2m wide and 4m long, i can go in the production of boat as we manufacture plastic water storage tanks and making mould is not a big deal for me as we have capacity of making big roto mould articles and we have a good source of mould maker who are also interested in helping to make this project successful.
Frankly Gaurang, you need to fully understand several engineering disciplines, to successfully design a sailboat, particularly if intending to go into production. Considering the very basic nature of your questions, you'd be best advised to seek the services of a professional (I'd strongly recommend it), rather then try to learn what you need in this format.

regarding making a boat by roto molding you would be better off get a set of plans that are for plywood construction as this would be then easy to make the mold. unlike Europe or America who make their molds by CNC i know that here in Asia most molds for rotomolding are still made with thin stainless steel sheets and with cheap labor and cheap raw material costs making molds are really not expensive for this process. your best bet is to stay with stitch and glue type plans as these have less compound curves and more flat panels that would be easier to make with stainless sheets.
I know of many companies here that build rotomolded boats up to about 15ft but i have never seen anything over that size
