Freeship files from Delftship?

I have given up trying to "mirror to make a cat hull form" and every other option I can think of and try using Delftship 3.2 .
Also, I have given up trying to export to FreeShip to continue my work there.

Because of my extreem amateur status, disinclined to pay to upgrade to Delftship Pro, so will attempt to learn Freeship 2.85 and restart there, unless someone can advise that I need to read the F manual more as it can be done!!!???

How many people use DelftShip? 3.2 (which I have but will stop using)
How many people use FreeShip? 2.85 (which I have & will be using)

Has anyone managed to import/export files from recent editions of either to the other??

I would be happy if this thread became a repository for "Freeship" advice and questions

only now paging thrue the 3.2 manual, lots of new info but dont like old R12

Page 44 starts with section 11.11.1 Section.... Is that where it is buried? - bugger started to use Freeship as everyone else seems to be using that. I only went to Delft as I was automatically redirected there & I thought, "new owners" . . also, . . "may be some advantage here with additional enhancements"

Now I am really confused & my eyes are feeling the strain. I am not doing any design work for a few days.. to recover & think. Thanks

Sounds like you have not found the right mouse button functions.

Hold button down and scroll up and down to zoom in or out.

Hold buttom down and move mouse to move the image around within the window.

These two little tricks can save the eyes.

THere are heaps of posts on FreeShip - if you do a search you will find answers to most of your questions.

PS: I expect Martijn will chime in. Delftship is the commercialisation of FreeShip. Although EUR150 for DelfShip Pro is more like a donation than any way of recovering the development costs for what is a nice tool.

There are a few versions of FreeShip. I find 2.6 is good. They are not upward compatible but you can <Save As> from Delftship to earlier versions.

Thanks for the input Rick, I have been using those attributes. Also left click in a window - to activate it - then wheel does the zooming in & out.

The eye-strain is due to the reflective nature of the screen. Even in low light I see my reflection & it is a most annoying feature the idiot marketing people imposed. "Crystal bright", for the gaming freaks who operate (as troglodytes) in darkness - absorbed in blood/guts and mayhem. Even text is difficult to read through my ugly reflection or I adopt a weird oblique posture to backdrop to a darkened wall.

Bugger! - That is the one option I did not try - save as "earlier version" - this may save me some time and eye-strain 'till I get my new machine with AMD cpu, and a separate non-reflecting screen!

I am using 2.86 which I got from somewhere - FREE!ship still.

I have now printed out both Delftship (free) 3.2 & Freeship 2.6 manuals

Read my earlier post. There is a commercial objective.

FreeShip and Delftship are essentially the same product with a different name and the latter has a commercial objective. What purpose would there be in keeping the FreeShip name going? It will only divert effort from developing the commercial product.

Some people actually have to work to make a living and commercialise their expertise.

Essentially, after having developed FREE!ship for more than two years as an open source project I decided to lift it to another level.
Since then a lot of new features have been added and bug fixed, also to the free version of the software.
Basically there has been a continuous development and although it's no longer open-source we still decided to provide a free version of the software, including support, tutorials and manuals and an online database containing a large number of designs that can be downloaded for free.

The FREE!ship domain name is linked to the DELFTship site for what I consider obvious reasons, especially considering the fact that apart from a change in name the software is still the same, if not better.

Thanks very much for your interest and an excellent hobbyist (free) application. When I first went to download Freeship, I got a bit confused by getting the Delftship site to download from.

I use Linux Mint, and found all three versions seem happy under the translation of "wine" except in forming catamaran from the half-hull. Also implementation of Michelet/Godzilla does not like the "wine" environment - but that is not your concern - unless you are considering to implement that within Delft/Free-ship - a nice enhancement? - It would be nice ported to Linux (ubuntu?) is that on the cards? even as a commercial application?

I have every which way to get the hulls (as a catamaran - not trimaran with 2 half hulls as amas?) using Delft (free) ship 3.2, Freeship 2.6 & 2.85?

The mirrored separation should be 2.7m for a new hull centreline distance of 5.4m gicing an OA beam of 6.2 to the edge of the spray rails.

Where do I click to work on non-symetrical aspects like the bridgedeck & symetrical aspects like the "outside deckhouse form.

Has linux imbedded "ownership" code into the plain text document (curves) & when I export curves mostly produces an unuseable twisted mess - is that because my plans are a mess too?

1. select all and export as .part from freeship
2. in delftship open new document
3. select all and delete
4. import part

freeship to delftship and delftship to freeship
