I wasn't sure where to place a news article on some offshore news that could be interesting (especially since there are many workers working offshore around the world). I figured that I should start a new thread as a clearinghouse for the latest news items and a place to submit the opinions, etc.

Just read this article at rigzone (offshore news website)

Gunmen have killed one person and seriously injured a second in an attack on a crewboat operated by Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) in the oil-rich Niger Delta, an industry source said Tuesday.

"One crew (member) was killed and one seriously injured," said the source.

The nationality of the crew members is not known.

He said the incident happened offshore from Onne, in Nigeria's southern Rivers State.

Is this the first fatality of a crew by gunmen down there, or is it just the first I have heard of it happening? Makes me glad that I am floating around the Gulf of Mexico instead of Nigeria...
