Hello Chaps,
The CDI on my 115 Yamaha outboard packed up :o
The locals charge me > R5000 for it, which is rediculous.
I have removed some of the rubber it was potted in, about 6 dry joints are clearly visible which indicates VERY POOR WORKMANSHIP. Can you tell I'm a bit irritated ? :D The spares used is about R100 in value.
Where can I get a circuit, or another CDI unit that is affordable ?

One of the main motivators behind the development of CDI (capacitive-discharge ignition) was to cure the slow, inevitable deterioration in performance caused by the wearing down of distributor points.
Well, CDI cured that. But it brought with it the small chance of a sudden, unannounced, total spontaneous failure.
5000 ZAR (I'm assuming you're talking South African Rands, symbol ZAR) is about $750 US or Canadian dollars. You can try aftermarket suppliers, but I wouldn't count on getting it too much cheaper.

Solder them up --you have nothing to loose or take it to the Tv shop !!!
If your imaginative with wiring you could try to adapt something off a motor bike that does not have the expensive 'marine' tag attached to it. Yet the technology is similar.

Well, how about NO performance ! I was hoping someone would have one lying about I could buy for a better price like $ 2 or something
Unfortunately during the de-rubbering process with sharp objects I broke one of the components :o But I'm thinking of making my own. Sell it for a decent price.

The cheapest price I got on the CDI was just over 4k. Still rediculous.
What are prices in the US ? They may be cheaper over there.
I have someone visiting from the states next month who could bring it with.
