View Full Version : 4m single handed keel boat

I have an idea for a small 4m singlehanded keel boat similar in principle to the 2.4m class.
I have roughed out a basic design 4m loa ,1m beam,1 m draft.
bulb keel with 150kg. 100kg allowed for crew,if the skipper weighs less than 100kg then the remaining weight is added under the seat.
total displ with crew 350kg.
I have drawn a simple double chine hull in "hulls" that could easily be stitched and taped.
The look of the boat is similar to current ACC class yachts.
The rig is a high roached fully battened mainsail with a non overlaping jib set on boom like a model yacht.
The keel is retractable to allow for easy trailering(unlike the 2.4)
My question is to you think there would be a demand for such a yacht? It could be amatuer built for around 1/2 the cost of a new 2.4m.
I have designed quite a few r/c models but this is my first full size yacht that I have considered taking further.
Any comments welcome.
cheers
Brett (NZL)

I have continued to work on my own version.
Inspired by the JS9000 and Martin 16 and off course the boat in the pics above which is very close to what I want to acheive.
LOA 4.5m
beam 850mm
SA 10m2
ballast 100kg
total displ incl 100kg crew 300kg

looks real slippery. would an inboard rudder create less drag?

I am a design student and I have been doing some research on women who design boats, yachts, etc. I was wondering if you ever happened to get in contact with Juliane Hempel or if perhaps you know of any other female designers. Thanks

Sarah
