Hello all,

I am considering converting a Sonar 23 to an "elegant daysailer" in the fashion of an Alerion 28 or Schock Harbor 25. The Sonar was chosen fo the following reasons,

Continued,

The Sonar was chosen for the following reasons, draft less than 4 ft(required), trailerable(required), low cost due to age, small jib for ease of single handing, large cockpit, no lifelines or hiking, relatively fast(PHRF 171), large enough lead keel for stability.

The modifications I am considering are as follows, any input that you have regarding desirability, applicability, cost or difficulty would be appreciated.

Hoyt Jib Boom to make single handing easier

Full Battened mainsail with lazyjacks and integrated sail cover such as Dyle stack pack

Add a 100-200 lb bulb to the keel since the boat will be sailed most often with one or two and increased rightting moment would be desirable.

Move the traveler aft of the cockpit and install a barney post for mainsheet

Install a retractable sprit for short handed assymetric sail off the wind. Below deck installation like J-80 desirable

Lastly, an electric auxilliary like the Harbor 20

Thanks in advance

D. Saint
