Is anybody here familiar with designing origami hulls?

Is there any known quick method or dirty trick around to ease the panel development?

What size boat do you have in mind? How much passenger capacity does it need? What kind of rough water will it need to endure?

"Tortured ply" construction is used on certain types of boats with good success. In general the boats of that type are quite narrow. As you mention there are some designs that can split a vee shaped panel into the bottom to get more beam. If done that way there is usually one or more hard spots in the bottom. That will not matter much on certain types of boats but will matter on others.

There are a number of plan sets available to build canoes with this method. Also I think Glen-L has some plans for this type. (Google Glen-L)

Thank you for your reply. Origami construction seems to offer some advantages including no need to set up a complex jig/frame system before actual boatbuilding starts and it also minimizes the need for welding. There are some resources on the internet including a yahoo group devoted to the subject and some builders homepages.

Currently I am experimenting with hull design programs and what I am really interested in if someone has come up with some neat, quick and reliable solution to developing origami panels accurately?
