Most manufacturers have 2D CAD (dxf usually) drawings of their engines, but does anyone know where I'd find 3D CAD models that I can insert into my own models?
Dear Will,
After long long net searches I have come to a conclusion, that they or are made by firms-designers of the ships, or sell firms-producer of engines. If you anythings will find - give please to know about it. Basically interest 3D of the CAT (3508).

Thanks Dim,
What program do you use to open the .3ds files in?
A little further thought on the subject leads me to wonder whether designers bother to insert 3D objects into a design, or if most simply insert objects into the 2D drawing views.....?
If so wouldn't this require inserting into each drawing, rather than into the model which can then be viewed at any angle / scale / section etc?
3d Studio, now 3d Studio Max? Should be able to open them in Rhino.
Of course, Jeff.
3ds - format opens by the Rhino ( for example ).
I try to work with complete model. But not always it is possible it to create. There is no information. As well as in this case. It is necessary for arranging engine room to use 2D drawings.
