Obtaining SMP95/SEP96/STH97?

Hello everyone,

I'm in the process of learning about ship dynamics simulation and found mention of the U.S. Navy SMP95 strip theory based frequency domain seakeeping program, the SEP96 seakeeping analysis program, the STH97 time history program, and the SWMP96 SWATH seakeeping program.

Other than finding some manuals on the web and that Proteus Engineering has wrapped these into their VisualSMP commerical product, I haven't found a source for these programs. NTIS.gov doesn't seem to know about them.

Are these programs public domain? Are they available anywhere?

Hi Tim,

I use SMP 93 on occasion and was able to obtain it several years ago with some difficulty. I used the program when I worked for Advanced Marine Enterprises, they were the "gate keeper" at the time. The program was unclassified but there were restrictions on sharing with non US nationals. It appears that Proteus is the present source for the program. AME worked with developing\expanding Fast Ship with another company that I believe was Proteus so it would make sense that they could be the distributor for SMP. I don't recall the name of the company AME was working with since I was not directly involved. I do know you could not find a sharper or more considerate group of people to work with.

SMP 93 input is from a seperate file you create and the information must be entered line by line counting spaces to be sure data is read in properly. It is not like todays programs where you have an interactive input. Also the output could choke a horse. The last time I ran it I had over 600 pages of output to sort through for the information I needed. It does work and the results are validated.
