Can you roll & tip Imron paint?

 

Not with good results that do justice to the Imron. You'll get all kinds of bubbly texture that is difficult or impossible to tip out. You could try brushing with a good badger hair brush. That will work better than the roller but it will not flow the way you'd like.

 

Okay, that's what I needed to know. I have rolled and tipped with Signature paint before it worked great. Now I have a different boat and I'm painting the upper structure with Imron...so I guess I'd better spray it. Thank you.

 

Imron is a trde name used by DuPont. It used to mean one particular paint, the original fleet Imron, now called Imron 5.0 There are several other polyurethane formulations which also bear the name such as Imron II, Imron 333, Imron 2000, 5000 & 6000. I think the answer to your question for either of the auto/fleet Imron products (5.0 and 3.5) would be "no". I'm going to guess that 5000 and 6000 are priced out of what you would be willing to pay for boat paint and 333, being very similar to 5000 seems to brush well, at least on the smaller scale projects I've tried it on. I have no idea if there is a brushing catalyst. Imron 333 cures very slowly anyway (WAY slower than Imron 5.0), so a different catalyst is probably not needed. I have no experience with the Imron 2000 product.
