I have been coming back to this over and over and massaging it as I go. I think it is finally coming around. This is designed to be a 50/50 hull, row and Sail...kind of a multipurpose shape that is fairly efficient for the most part in both modes. It could be used as a large tender or a smaller sail/row craft for recreational purposes. I think it would be best built in Glued Lapstrake out of 6 to 9mm ply with a 9 mm ply bottom...kind of a combination of Stitch and glue bottom and glued lap side construction. I am wondering what those of you who have built glued lapstrake boats would think of this combo...
Length: 15.1 ft
Beam: 5.1 ft
Draft: 8.1"@ 920 lbs disp.
Freeboard @ 920 lbs...11.5" at lowest point.
All panels come out of 16' lengths.

A pretty design, very nice transom shape.I can see some slight difficulty with the construction you propose. The stitch and glue centreline would run out at the first chine, presumably the stem would have to start at this point.Would you glass the bottom panels on the inside or just fit the stem on top?I would suspect that with a stayed rig,the strength and continuity of the structure are likely to be tested.I would be tempted to go with a hog laminated from a couple of pieces of 1/2 inch spruce or mahogany, perhaps 2 1/2 inches+slot width wide and to join it to a laminated stem.I would also be inclined to add a strip of glass to the central join.If doing this, bevel the ply by about 1/16 over a three inch width to lessen the filling needed to disguise the presence of the glass. If you aren't familiar with the class, the Osprey is built in a similar manner and a spot of Googling might lead you to it.It might be more racing orientated than your design but the construction method is worth examining.I hope we soon see building in progress in the gallery.

Hi, Steve,
That's a very good looking skiff, nice size for rowing and sail. I personally like your beam; some might say you're sacrificing speed and grace, but it still looks nicely proportioned, your shallow vee bottom will move through the water easily, and you gain in stability. What are you thinking of for sail? I didn't notice a centerboard or daggerboard trunk. Are you thinking of leeboards?
Nothing critical, just asking. I do like your design.
Cheers,
Charlie
