Shipshape was the first lines drawing and fairing program we used and had a couple of curviture indicators that I haven't seen elsewhere. We used it in combination with AutoCad. All on DOS.

However we then saw MacSurf running on a Mac and more importantly, we also had a demonstration of Ashlar Vellum. It was a 'road to Damascus' moment when we saw how easy an GUI interface could make life even after perservering with ACAD to R10. There also seemed to be momentum building behind the MacSurf / ClarisCAD / Vellum / Microstation combination with the likes of Shuttleworth, Corby and Rob Humphries all on board. So we switched and in particular, have remained really pleased with MaxSurf.

Ironically, although it was a total dislike of AutoCAD that really drove our choice initially, we have had to return to AutoCad as it's the only real way of ensuring perfect file exchangeability with yards and other designers, although for ease and speed of preparing 2D drawings, Vellum (or now Graphite) is still way better, IMHO.

At the moment we are concidering HullScant from the Wolfson and I would also be interested in hearing from users of their Windesign Performance Prediction program.
