Am wondering if any of the model year Fichts are worth owning, or should you be afraid of all of them? 225hp or 250hp
I wouldn't bother with them. When I was stilling working in the Office of Boating Safety, I and another engineer looked at these in a repair shop. They have really cheap plastic fuel lines and fuel fittings. They don't hokd up and fuel leaks were fairly common. OMC started a recall, but went Out of Business within a few weeks and left thousands of them out there without the new parts. Bombardier bought the Outboard part of OMC and carried out the recall but within a year or so abandoned the FICHT and went with a new system. So they are really orphans and you don't know if it's had the upgrade.
I still have photos of them if you want to see what they look like under the hood.

Hey thanks for the reply, I am having to either replace my 225 Ocean Pro or rebuild it, trying to decide the best route, can't afford a new motor. Would like to find something more efficient and easier to start but don't know if it's worth extra money.
I don't mean to sound sarcastic, but what's your life or boat worth? These are the only outboards I know of that had a reputation for fires. I would either get the fuel system fixed or get a new engine.

The Ocean Pro's had a reputation for fires? I currently own an Ocean Pro that is getting tired.
