Counterweighing The Engine

Im currently in the design of a 18 ft skiff, and am thinking about the engine. How does one counterweigh the weight of an engine on the back to keep the boat even on plane? Should weights or something be placed in the bow to keep the bow down.

No, the boat design should be correct. Hydrodinamic lift keeps the boat balanced. Adding weight is a poor way to try to correct a bad design.
