Info wanted on "Composite/fake timber"

Im looking at building a retro styled skiboat in fibreglass and have seen similar boats built using a timber looking tissue placed over clear gelcoat. then a coloured gelcoat applied to give the wanted colour. I know this has been around for decades. Does anyone have any info, experience or photos on this??
