relation between principal particulars

can you provide any information , how can I have a relation between the principal particulars of a special kind of ship?
that is, I know the displacement or deadweight how can i approximate about the other principal particulars like length, breadth, depth, ect?
or if i can know about the length,,, how can i proceed to approximate about other principal particulars?

You mean like Depl = L x B x D x Cb or more advanced, maybe statistical relations?

For a known type of ship...you can somewhat do that. But except for gross size esitmation, the numbers won't be real for anything useful unless you know things like speed, draft limits, Panamax, Suezmax, etc.

What I mean is that a HSCS has a block coeff of .55-.6, midships coefficent of .88-.95, a prismatic coeff of ~.7, a Fn of ~0.25 and a B/T ~2.

A VLCC would have a block of .85-.9, midships of .99, prismatic of ~.85, a Fn ~.15, and B/T of 1.5-2.

So that would make 200,000 DWT tanker ~306 x 35 x 23 m at 16 kts

I think you have to be even more specific when you ask.

yes,,, I have a ordinary passenger vessel and a cargo vessel in my mind.

there are only relation between length and breadth, breadth and depth , etc
I found no direct method for finding the lenght or breadth etc after knowing the displacement or deadweight.

Your instructor is not asking you to find and learn a formula, he is asking to to read and care about ships. If you really wanted to be a Naval Architect, then you whould have read everything you could have before you got to this point. And you would be able to answer his questions by knowing about similiar ships.

A Naval Architect is not about just yachts or just VLCCs, he is about everything that floats. You should be able to discuss knightheads and SOLAS in the same sentence. You should know that a 3,000 TEU container ship is ~280m long and ~ 33m in beam if a Panamax ship.

What he is asking you to do is read and remember...and develop a size guide in you head for the different ship types.....So if he later says...." You have a ULCC in the English channel..." you can say "Wait a minute!...a ULCC is too deep to navigate....".
