I replaced the points and condensers motors starts fine but when I press the stop button and hold it, the motor continues to run. I shorted the wires together going up into the flywheel area, but it still runs.

Any suugestions on how to trouble shhot. I don't understand how this suppose to work to begin with.

    stop button

The stop button is a switch that breaks the ignition circuit. Pressing it either opens the circuit preventing spark, or grounds the system preventing spark. Without a wiring diagram can't say which way. But in either case it sounds like the switch is bad. I would double check all the connections and give the switch a good shot of contact cleaner and see if anything changes.
