I am trying to get the specs on this windlass to see if it will handle the anchor on my 36' Gulfstar.

This is a Simpson-Lawrence Seahorse Ser # 513179019 manual windlass with capstain for rope and chain gypsy on opposite sides. It is about half the size of a #555. I purchased it an an auction last night.

I tried googling and could only find a site called www.simpson-lawrence.com which is apparently NOT the company. And a lot of referances to sales shops which dont know about obsolete products.

The old well known company of simpson - lawrence was bought out by Clyde Marine try the brand name Lewmar at www.lewmar.com should be able to help. I wouldn't like to commit myself but what you have should work, they produced some bloody good gear in their day - depends on the size of chain and depth you want to use it in of course! Good luck with your hunting

Thanks, I have left them a note. The windlass is small but looks tough enough. I will just use the chain that will fit if it has enough lifting capability.

I decided to put on a windlass after my last trip when I had to cut loose one anchor when it got caught in some hurricane debris and I could not manually pull it loose and on another occasion I bent the shaft of a big danforth while pulling it out of the mud. The windlass would not have helped to keep me from bending it, but it would have helped my back.
