Ari,
Cast aluminum from cans is a really poor boatbuilding material. It lacks the ellements in the alloy that are necessary for the marine environment.
How would you make the mold? I think wood might be a good choice for boat building in your area.
Hallo Solomon Grundy,
I'm building one in wood.
It is so happen my elder sister operating a recyle metal business, there is always about four or five ton of Aluminium passed through her monthly.we pay the seller USD680 per tonne..it is quite attractive to me.

Marine grade Alloy is the only thing to consider and unfortunately it is not castable. Your drinks cans are as Solomon says a very poor grade. they are usefull as anodes.
Cheers
Thank you Mike. So now her aluminium cans are saved..

on the aluminium thing-
I have had a sneeking thieving malingering curiosity for a while as to wether or not the aluminium from beer kegs could be used to create some sort of frenkenstein panel beaten and welded together boat thing..
I haven't really wanted to ask in case it came across that I was advocating stealing the property from the beer companies.
I don't mean to do this- even though I have probably given enough money to beer companies in my life to build a rather large liveaboard:D
So just for intersest- lets say for the random guy that might happen to have a couple of hundred empty aluminium beer kegs in their back yard (not me:cool: )- could this alluminium be used?

No ....wrong grade and the old problem off too much strength lost in welding for patchwork approaches with alloy.
cheers
And the beer kegs are saved again..!:)
