I have a 1979 Trojan flybridge with a single engine 454 Mercrusier inboard. It also has a Teak swim platform on the rear and we have to climb over the transom and railing to get on the rear deck. My Dad' s (much larger) boat has a thru-transom-door and my wife has asked if we could do the same. I have checked the rear deck level and there is approx. 15-16 above the standing water line. I have done quite a bit of fiberglass work both polyester and epoxy resins so I don't think I would have trouble with the project.

My concern is what would it do to the value of the boat and/or would it detract from the structural integrity of the hull. I have had both postive and negative feedback and would appreciate this forum's opinion.

thanks

i wouldnt cut away on your transom , u are playing dangerous with the structual ,maybe you could make a gate with the railing and a step moulded from fiberglass
