Water in Mercury 60?

I just send the 3 Carburetors of my 2003 Mercury 60 for cleaning, where they found a lot of dirt in the Carburetors. And cleaned it.
I did this as my engine wasn't used for over 1 year.

I got a brand new Tank and filled the Petrol direct at the Gas station into it + adding the oil.

Yesterday I adjusted the 3 Carburetors, and could feel the cylinders working when putting my hand over the 3 carbs. On a short test run everything went fine. The engine will start with the first pull. And Full speed was possible too.

Today I went out for a longer trip and had the following problem. the first 15 minutes everything will go fine, full throttle OK. But after this the engine will start to conk and looses power. and wouldn't let me go full throttle. Only half throttle.

I did some fishing and later when I started the engine again it will be the same, about 15 minutes can go fast, after this only half throttle.

Opening the cover I saw that the carburetors were covered with Water drops.
Also asking a friend he said there could be water in the Petrol. and that is the reason why the engine starts to conk. That there is some water getting in is obvious. Only It can't be from the tank as this is brand new and was dry and clean when bought.

Also I discovered that the rubber sealing of my engine cover is damaged. Could Water get there through it?

I'm really not sure where to check first and what to do? Any Suggestions?

Ok I limited allready the options.

A Mercury Sea Pro 60 actually don't have a cylinder head or gasket. The Cylinder head is fixed on the Motor and can't be open. So it has nothing to do with the cylinders.

Since there is no water in the fuel the problem only can be located at 2 places. It could be the thermostat or the float in the carburators.

That means that one of the carborators is not getting enough fuel and after the fuel in the fuelchamber of the carb is finished the engine starts to conk.

I will check this out tomorrow.

Can I remove the Thermostat without running in trouble?

Make sure the tell tale water jet is squirting outside the engine cover and has not come off. It may me squirting inside the cover.
A little bit of water going into the carbs in the air will not be too much problem ( it will take it) but water going through the fuel system and the jets will be. I think you might have 2 problems here.

I will take a look at that. Even if I guess that the problem is with the float in the carbs, as the engine starts to conk after a few minutes.

The water at the carbs is normal regarding to an Mechanic (One - doing the repairs at Yacht Club)

I'm by my self are living near Pantai Cenang doing some traditional fishing trips with a special modified boat.

Finaly I've got it back on track, after consulting 4 different mechanics.

Opinions was, cooling system, carburators and finaly ignition.

Ignition was the closest and we check nearly everything, coils, powerpacks, stator, cylinders.

Finaly we figured it out.

Everytime when we put the engine cover back it would pull the top spark plug lead a little bit off the spark plug, so not enough contact.

I got know a new spark plug lead with an slightly longer cable which will bend down and the engine runs like a charm.
