trouble with FREEship manual

I have downloaded the english manual for FREEship, but I can't read it. The graphics are fine, but I'm getting a error message that I have a missing font so no text is legible.
I have an old release of Acrobat (3.1), is that maybe my problem?
I'm way out in the boondocks with a can and string connection and have been unable to successfully download a more recent version from the internet.

is fast and lightweight, should be no problem to download and works just as good as the pdf acrobat
