Hello,
I am with Direct Dimensions, we are a reverse engineering company. We have a large array of non contact 3d laser scanners and Touch probe type digitizers.
We do not specialize in just marine applications but have done a variety of marine projects in the past, here is one direct application of some of the data we have collected and processed.

If you are interested in getting something digitized give me a call
Thanks

Why would we?
Typically we do not do the wrapping in house because it is not our specialty but we do create the CAD models, all of models are highly accurate....
Copying a boat hull and then providing an exact model of how to build it? I don't know...that's a pretty fine line to dance on.
I've measured lines for reference, but direct copying seems a little questionable.

Picture it this way, we are usually contracted by the original manfacture to do this service. Many boats that are still produced today were orginally handcrafted and CAD models were never produced. Some people want CAD models to do analysis to improve upon their existing designs. We have also recently had great interest in using our service to help create patterns for some large sail boats. Once the patterns are generated, the cloth can be cut off site at place that specializes in cutting cloth and then the onsite manufacture does not need to waste their time with something they are not setup to do....

A seperate example: This is very useful in design a new cockpit area that would fit inside an existing section of a boat, Having the exact data to start with would make sure that things would fit correctly the first time and help eliminate the costly related expenses with producing multiple prototypes.
It might be interesting for some production builders or high-end racers to scan a hull to see how close it is to the design model.

Good points. Hadn't thought of those ways.

Hi
I woild like to know how much it would cost to have cad models done of a ski boat 19ft and of a house boat 60ft * 25ft that i have been working on.
And would you have any models similar to the two i have mentioned as i am finding it hard to design my own. By no means do i mean to copy other peoples designs merely learn from.
