I am new to this forum and new to Jet boats. I bought a 1973 MFG Caprice Jet. It has a Jacuzzi jetdrive bolted to a 5.7L motor. I am planning to rebuild the motor. I have learned a lot from this forum already. There is a lot of information about the proper cams, intakes, and power curves for building motors for prop driven boats. Do the same rules apply for a jet driven boat?

Well, yes and no. I'm not familiar with your hull and so I can't comment on what your ideal setup would tend towards.... in general, a good prop-driving engine will spin a jet nicely too. But when you get into the details, looking at how your boat behaves and how you use it, you might want peak power higher, or lower, in the RPM band than you would for a prop. There aren't really any hard-and-fast rules; I'd try to track down owners or engine builders familiar with this hull and see what they've done with the motor.

The MFG Caprice is an 18 ft. boat with a deep-V design. I am not looking for a super fast motor just a strong dependable one.
Thanks for your reply. I will try to post a picture of my boat.
