I have pulled a few keelbolts from my Iron keel (Ranger 26)and have discovered some serious wear, about 50 % remains on one. Not sure if this is erosion due to friction or oxidation or what. I also do not know what metal this is. My guess is monel as it is non magnetic. Bolts are easy enough to replace as the keel to hull is a flange arangement with eight buggle headed /flat head bolts. I am looking for suggestions on what type of bolts I should replace with. Thank you.

Post a few pictures and we can identify the culprit.
Also, what is the hull made of?

Sorry, I should have used the term weathered not eroded. I do not have the capability here to send pictures but I can tell you that the bolts are quite smooth and not pitted. I think they loosened up over the years and had some "play". Either way I need to replace these. Also, the hull is fiberglass.
Thanks for your time
Brian

It's not likely the bolts are Monel; it's a bit pricey for a production boat. Several stainless steels are also non-magnetic and one of those is more probable. The 26 is an early Gary Mull design and it's possible you can get an answer from Shelly Hayse, Gary's widow. She has many of his drawings and specifications. You can e-mail her at shayse2@yahoo.com.
