DHMO, or Dihydrogen Monoxide is one of all-times worst killer.

From www.dhmo.org

_DHMO contributes to global warming and the "Greenhouse Effect", and is one of the so-called "greenhouse gasses."

_DHMO is an "enabling component" of acid rain -- in the absence of sufficient quantities of DHMO, acid rain is not a problem.

_DHMO is a causative agent in most instances of soil erosion -- sufficiently high levels of DHMO exacerbate the negative effects of soil erosion.

_DHMO is present in nearly every creek, stream, pond, river, lake and reservoir in the U.S. and around the world.
_Measurable levels of DHMO have been verified in ice samples taken from both the Arctic and Antarctic ice caps.

_Recent massive DHMO exposures have lead to the loss of life and destruction of property in California, the Mid-West, the Philippines, and a number of islands in the Caribbean, to name just a few.

The U.S. government refuses to ban the production, distribution, and use of DHMO. This inaction may be due to pressures from private interests and corporate-sponsored economists, among many, who predict a DHMO ban could produce disastrous results. Claims include damage to public health and the well-being of the U.S. and world economies.

Seriously, something should be done.

Getting rid of it would affect lots of people and industries to be sure.

http://www.dhmo.org/facts.html
* as an industrial solvent and coolant,
* in nuclear power plants,
* by the U.S. Navy in the propulsion systems of some older vessels,
* by elite athletes to improve performance,
* in the production of Styrofoam,
* in biological and chemical weapons manufacture,
* as a spray-on fire suppressant and retardant,
* in abortion clinics,
* as a major ingredient in many home-brewed bombs,
* as a byproduct of hydrocarbon combustion in furnaces and air conditioning compressor operation,
* in cult rituals,
* by the Church of Scientology on their members and their members' families (although surprisingly, many members recently have contacted DHMO.org to vehemently deny such use),
* by both the KKK and the NAACP during rallies and marches,
* by pedophiles and pornographers (for uses we'd rather not say here),
* by the clientele at a number of homosexual bath houses in New York City and San Francisco,
* historically, in Hitler's death camps in Nazi Germany, and in prisons in Turkey, Serbia, Croatia, Libya, Iraq and Iran,
* in World War II prison camps in Japan, and in prisons in China, for various forms of torture,
* by the Serbian military as authorized by Slobodan Milosevic in their ethnic cleansing campaign,
* by many terrorist organizations,
* in community swimming pools to maintain chemical balance,
* by software engineers, including those producing DICOM software SDKs,
* in animal research laboratories, and
* in pesticide production and distribution.

What you may find surprising are some of the products and places where DHMO is used, but which for one reason or another, are not normally made part of public presentations on the dangers to the lives of our family members and friends. Among these startling uses are:

* as an additive to food products, including jarred baby food and baby formula, and even in many soups, carbonated beverages and supposedly "all-natural" fruit juices
* in cough medicines and other liquid pharmaceuticals,
* in spray-on oven cleaners,
* in shampoos, shaving creams, deodorants and numerous other bathroom products,
* in bathtub bubble products marketed to children,
* as a preservative in grocery store fresh produce sections,
* in the production of beer by all the major beer distributors,
* in the coffee available at major coffee houses in the US and abroad,
* in Formula One race cars, although its use is regulated by the Formula One Racing Commission, and
* as a target of ongoing NASA planetary and stellar research.

One of the most surprising facts recently revealed about Dihydrogen Monoxide contamination is in its use as a food and produce "decontaminant." Studies have shown that even after careful washing, food and produce that has been contaminated by DHMO remains tainted by DHMO.

Interesting site. Looked high and low for some indicators as to who the dhmo.org is, what their qualifications are, or even where they are. In the opening line on the Home page it says "now in Newark Delaware" that is all I could find. They make it look like they are a branch of the Government or something but...???
Could be some whacko just making stuff up for all I know.

Any one else find any clues as to who these people are?

Sleazy tactics alert...Litter your home page with links to all sorts of links to big name legitmate Government branches and orginizations. It gives you a look of credibility.

Well, they have som fun about the ignorance among other people and journalists... They say this is for educatonial reasons, but when you click on "What is DHMO, shouldn't they explain that it's water and that the whjole site is a joke=?

DanishBagger
02-20-2006, 06:59 AM
No, that's the whole point. You have to dig deeper than that. If it were there, not much could have been learned from it, as it's not a given that anything there is the truth - I could make a site so horrendously extreme, and then in the "about us" I could write yet another lie.

Btw, how many of you actually thought of looking Dihydrogen Monoxide up and/or connected it to H20?

I think it's a great site.

The reason I came to think of it was that I was asked how to tell if a site could be trusted to buy from (In the titanium wood-screw thread), and then I remembered this site.

I think it proves a good point, although it's never nice to feel taken ;)

Edit: May I add, that one of the reasons I think it's a great site is because so many people will believe any claim, simply because it is written down. And, seriously, we all know that if it's on the net, it must be the truth. I mean, it's the "internet", right? That's almost like Interpol, maaan!!

DanishBagger

Heh, although the site is a joke, you'd still be hard pressed to find anything on there that is a lie.

One of the great dangers with DHMO is what fish do in it! It's criminal so it is! A law should be passed preventing fish from doing that!

And as to the mess it makes of your whisky or whiskey, no matter how you spell it, mankind needs rescuing from this stuff!

Actually my 15 year old is more concerned with the effect it has on his body when you add to soap to it! but that's a teenage boy for you (they're all the same unfortunately);)

I'm still considering how to market dehydrated dihydrogen monoxide, I mean its been proved that the mere mention of DHMO sends thousands into panic, so all we got to do is reverse the trend caused by Danish and get people to realise that DHMO is good for them in small quantities, then we can start selling tins of dehydrated DHMO as a luxury item! "just add water" to a small tin of dry nothing!! WOW! It's gotta work, better'n selling fridges to eskimos!!

DanishBagger
06-29-2008, 05:08 AM
You could market it as an organic product, a biodynamic one (only harvested once in a blue moon), as a soft drink to compete with coke, an "all natural product, designed for your benefit" (yes, it's an oxymoron), and so on!
Hell, if it really took off, you could open up a series of cafés with HDMO as a specialty.
One thing, though, you'd have to make the term sound a bit more swallable, so to speak. DHMS sounds way too chemical, not to mention: Too much like DSMO.

safewalrus
06-29-2008, 05:16 AM
Yeah - so we need a snazzy name, needs some thought this one! Allready the use of DHMO is much lauded by the British governement and every where you go you see people with little bottles of water swigging away uncontrollably! Lack of self discipline to me but if it could be turned to profit....................................

06-29-2008, 05:27 AM
Well I think the "snappy" acronyms, sell quite well look at the car trend, some of them have more letters than a be-knighted lord with a professorship at a prestigious university..... , be careful of "copyright as one water vendor is selling "H2O2GO" already........

Pontification is another vice, as is telling "tallies".... I have often been advised, (since I am not a journalist), to "never let the truth get in the road of a good story" and in true novelist tradition, (neither am I one of those), embed acceptable facts and time-lines to make the rest of the story palatable, acceptable and divorced from suspicion of being partly constructed of obfuscation... ? :D
