anyone out there building a sailboat and needing sitka spruce for the mast? i have three boards 3" x 12" x 31' and one board 2'" x 12" x 31' for sale. have had them for several years stored inside. they are probably the only big sitka available in the world. if you want a true once in a lifetime deal let me know., harold oneuglyboat@hotmail.com

Wait, didn't this thread had remarks by PAR and a couple of others? Including where you stated it would be 8$ per foot?

Hm, just realised it was this thread instead, but nonetheless:

i think you are not right about the price. the price is $8 per bdft. thats board foot.

nah, I think you're right, One.

62 feet x 8 equals 496$. Is that what you also get?

Or how do you reckon "bd ft" - I'm not english, but isn't it just like "running metres", only in feet?

A board foot is 12 inches by 12 inches by 1 inch. A board 6 inches wide and 6 feet long by 1 inch thick is 3 board feet.

Ah, I see, so it's a cubic measurement!

That makes it 155 bd ft!! @8 dollars, that's 1240US$, if I did it correctly :(

there are 3 boards 3" x 12" x 31' that's 93 bdft each x 3 boards - thats 279 bdft. plus one board 2" x 12" x 31' that's 62 bdft plus 279 above for a total of 341 bdft x $8 equals $2,728.

Ouch!

I though there were only two :(

Btw, is it just me, but isn't that just a tad expensive? Is Sitka spruce and equivalents a rarity in the US?
