Greetings,

I am planning on building a partially RC and partially Robotic Fishing Boat approximately 4 to 5' in length. I am planning on making it a gas powered inboard, ocean ready capable of un-manned fishing. I have done many web searches and have just ordered several books on boat design theory.
The hull will be made out of wood. I have several questions (I am sure the books I ordered may be able to answer some of these questions, but I don't feel like waiting :) ).

1) What type of hull shape would you recommend? I was thinking of Cathedral or Deep-V.

2) What type of wood would you recommend?

3) Are there any good sites for beginner boat designers which include formulas?

I appreciate any help I can get.

What is the quantitiy and how big are the fish that you plan to catch with this thing? I highly recommend going through the process of filling out a set of Owner's Requirements to establish goals and better defining your project. For the moment a blank Owner's Requirements form is available free at www.hawaii-marine.com/templates. After doing this, start going through the design spiral process. A design spriral article is available free at http://www.newavesys.com/articles.htm. By this point you will know if you need outside help or not.
