Yippee!!! Back to the old smilies!

Not only is this my favorite forum based on its content and the quality of people contributing to it, but it also has what to my tastes is the best mix of html features. Some forums don't have threads, some are slow, some don't have smilies. At first I thought smilies -- emoticons -- were childish, but now I see how they reduce misunderstandings from subtleties that are hard to type in, so I'm glad they're here. And I like the ones we have. Some of those other ones are a little obnoxious. They were changed for a day or so but then changed back, so I thought I would put in my vote for the original/current ones.

I've noticed some other changes too. Maybe it would good for Jeff to get a little feedback on the html code. Or maybe not. Anyway, here's my input:

There was a change earlier in the year, where there was an extra blank line added after each quote box. I felt it was unnecessary, but it looks like it may be gone now.

When editing a message, [color] and [/color] tags are BOTH placed at the very beginning of the message, even if the cursor is somewhere else and/or there is text selected. The old code would place the tags around the selected text, which was very convenient. I would consider beginning-of-message positioning an outright bug.

The old code automatically refreshed the thread index window for each forum each time I returned to it. I found that very convenient. The new code doesn't do that.

The new message-editing code is definately slower than the old. That makes a difference to me because I'm running Win98 on a 232-MHz Pentium II.

It looks like the "edit" button inside my existing posts now goes to the "quick" edit mode instead of the full edit page. Seems faster now, I like it either way.

What browser and version are you using. I'm not able to reproduce this bug using Firefox or IE with either the enhanced or full Rich Text editors selected.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean here - are you referring to read and unread icons/bolding, or something else?

IE 5.00. That box of little color squares is also particularly slow to display.

Yes, that's part of it. Also adding new posts entered since the last time I looked at the index.
