I've had good service from Helly-Hansen "Eriksens". Good price & durable. The one thing I do not like is that they are green. If you go overboard you will be hard to spot.

Not a good colour ain't green, especially in Cornwall - tis the fairies colour, belongs to them, they can have it (an if you think thats superstition, read Tims post above! superstition is soundly based on fact)

guy cotten is the best stuff I've tried. x trapper is the pants called that i've got. It lasts ten times longer than helly hansen or that other norwegian crap, aalesund, i think i never seen one of them without a big gash except in the store. they also get mildew and never dry.
I also vaguely remember being satisfied with some grundens pants which i probably forgot on some boat.
there is some icelandic stuff might be similar quality to gc, i think theyre called 66deg north or something.
you know the rainhat thing, we call sydvest (meaning southwest), with a larger brimm in the rear, it is more practical than a hood i think. wool works for me, i'm sure synthetics can do almost as well.
