    The photo is the main entrance to Mammoth Cave. During the War of 1812 saltpeter was mined from Mammoth Cave and shipped to DuPont plants to make gunpowder. DuPont has subsidiaries in Norway...?

    Next clue has to do with the chemistry of the product. How is the chemistry significant?

    Most saltpetre is niter, or sodium nitrate. However, the saltpetre mined in Mammoth Cave is calcium nitrate, also known as Norgessalpeter (Norwegian saltpeter), given that name because Norwegians were the first to figure out how to make synthetic nitrogen fertilizer from it.
