Now that would be the small town of Hirtshals, located in northern Denmark at the coast of Skagerrak. The lighthouse was built between 1860 and 1863, electrified in 1947 and automated in 1973.

Took me quite a while to figure it out. Confused the lighthouse with Stevns first. At least guessed the country right .

This might be a tough one...

Where is this old lady and what's the story behind her?
Bonus if you find the folklore tale of how she got there.

The memorial was erected in 1984 in the memory of all those brave sailors, who have perished in the treacherous waters nearby.

Remove the pictures! Download and rename them! Otherwise it is not a problem to solve that puzzle.

Tough, was the Japanese sort of enigma........but we got it. (Teddy especially) Tough was my attempt to give nothing but one hint, but they solved it....
This is the toughest place on investigations .....

Pictures renamed. Those are actually my own photos, so no need for downloading, I suspect.
Well, I'm a beginner in this, but perhaps I'll learn

We are all beginners, sometimes at some end.

Teddy will know it, I am sure. but that does not make the puzzle easier for others. I know it, but keep my mouth shut.

A nice one, you made, thanks!

I know that at least one Hanseatic League and one non-Hanseatic League city use the Latin phrase as their motto.

"We have to sail, we do not have to live."

Right, but we have to see that in consensus.

Navigare necesse est, vivere non est necesse, and then:

Sed sine vita non navigamus.

we cannot sail if we do not live.

The phrase has indeed to be put in context here. There are many old shipwrecks around the place, from times when almost all long-distance transportation was by sea. The waters around there are very rocky and in the old times the sailors had to navigate only with a compass, a sextant and very poor charts.

Not so long ago the most up-to-date charts of some parts of the region were from late 19th century, and they had LOTS of white areas. I remember those charts when I was a child, and my parents navigated with those. Before the time of GPS and other electronics. Fortunately I was too taught to navigate 'the old way'.

'Navigare necesse est, vivere non est necesse'
'To sail is necessary, to live is not necessary'
...Although I prefer both

Also, even today the only ways to get the goods necessary for living around there are transportation by sea or do-it-yourself. You just can't always drive to the nearest shop if you're missing something.
