Does anybody see any typical thing here, or just know the place, . . . . ? ?

Sheesh! very short shadows, sun high in the sky - tropicalish? clouds building up and the buildings could fit...
probably tidal from the jetty detailing, but might be just to adjust to a lot of variation in the river level.
The lettering on the stern of the second boat on the outside of the pontoon - ends in FL? Florida? Anyone got photoshop to stick it in and enhance?

It'll probably turn out to be the Ribble just outside Preston now...

Vegetation matches peninsular Florida salt marshes.

Good detection work - it is Florida! But where?

The road that crosses the bridge where the photo was taken 'dead ends' at the plant in the background. The chimney is typical of these places found at various places along the eastern seaboard and Gulf coasts.

I think it might be a bourbon distillery.

Naah, can't get anywhere. Time for bed. C'mon Hoyt - your backyard!

Could just do with a little nip now, too. Shame I've got none in...

The sailboat says "Fernandina Bch, Fla".

My best guess is within 30 miles of Jacksonville.

Well, that looks like 'Fernandina Beach Florida'. [2] [3]

Why not go for that?

Good luck!

Thanks. I can't identify the place, though, just by what is written on a movable object. Terrain looks like the right area. I just could not ascertain the exact location from my resources, both time and otherwise.

It seems to me that the key information in Crag's clue is the plant with the typical chimney.

What are the typical, traditional industries on the Gulf coast and Eastern seaboard that involve a significant enough heat process to need a chimney?

Is there any fish/shrimp processing that requires this? smoking? fertilizer? what else - any salt production?

Presuming that the plant is sea related, we're not talking about sugar or anything?

N 14th street bridge, looking West, approximately 1.5 miles NNE of the centre of Fernandina Beach.
