There is a large statue of a person with a very large mushroom shaped hat in the photo, this side of the closest building with a squarish tower. I thought it might portray a foot soldier from the time of the shogunate fiefdoms, or perhaps a samurai.

Yes the 'Fortuna #2' built in 1992. But as far as I could Google #2 is identical to #3.

The Independent, 12 December 1997:
Quote:
Spanish tycoons chip in to keep their king at sea in some style

King Juan Carlos yesterday welcomed to the Zarzuela Palace near Madrid a delegation of Spanish businessmen who want to buy him a new yacht (#3) to replace his much-loved but ageing Fortuna (#1)

Fortuna (#1) given to the King in 1979 by King Fahd of Saudi Arabia

The businessmen want to order the new craft to be made ready for the summer of 1999. It (#3) will be constructed on the lines of one (#2) built for the king in 1992 but which for reasons of economy he declined. The shipyard was owned by Banesto bank, whose boss, Mario Conde, tried to give the yacht to the King as a present. But he declined the offer from the man who was shortly to be sacked in disgrace, and who is on trial for fraud.
The Independent must be wrong about the Mario Conde connection or this is wrong ‘‘(#2 was too big to be accepted by his tax payers)’’

The Independent, 9 January 1994:
Quote:
JP Morgan caught up in a Spanish inquisition....

A year ago, JP Morgan put its faith in Mario Conde, the controversial president of Banesto...

His yacht was identical to that (#1) of King Juan Carlos - with whom he sails each summer in Majorca - until, that is, he bought a bigger one (*)
(*) The declined #2 from 1992 If so then Mario and the King had the same yacht again in 2000, that is, if #2 still was with Mario in 2000.

If it turns out that #2 is not identical to #3 then the search for the specs could be a spare for this thread

Regards,
Angel - back early, but off again till monday I guess...

Thanks John, now we are going to look foreward to a string of these from you

I have a few spare minutes for lunch and it's a warm 26 deg C here, lovely day.

I see Richard nailed it already. and Oonoo was too much of a hint, shipbuilders heaven around here and all the Japanese ships I've seen have been very well constructed.

"ono", I believe, is "delicious" in Japanese - I was thinking in that plane. I don't have much of a knack for the puzzles you guys so readily solve.
