I must confess. I was never at Port Darlington, but chose it as nearest navigable water to the site of the only North American land battle of WWII. I will soon be out of places, myself, simply because I am more of a river rat than true sailor.

Think he visited this place on the third voyage 1776. It was found by another sailor a few years earlier.

Nono Guillermo I said SECOND voyage, and naturally know why. Because he was there, but did fail to land, due to bad weather conditions. Then, on his third voayage he managed to land there and wrote: "I could have very properly called the island Desolation Island to signalise its sterility, but in order not to deprive M. de Kerguelen of the glory of having discovered it, I have called it Kerguelen Land." (Logbook of James Cook, 1776) but I gave a false info on the latitude............. it is only 49° 20′ S, and 69° 20′ O The southernmost grave of a German Soldier in WWII
