Have you touched the sands of Bleik, on the Skoleveiten Hwy.? What acounts for the white sand?

Well, If I got it, I didn't really get it because I was nearly as far wrong as could be without help. To keep things moving, I'll post one. Please ignore if somebody else has one.

If one gets the boat name he'll know the city, the reason for the city, the reason for the boat. I just don't know how they got these boats from where they were built to where they worked!

The first American writer of literature could have been talking about this place when he said, "To believe yourself to be brave is to be brave; it is the only essential thing.", and tho he had a job on a boat like this, he didn't ever go here.



I have been here 28 times (but I can't write!). I tried to take some locals to dinner one time. A reply was, "Are you kidding? We're ________ - We eat dogshit and cheeseburgers!"

Dawson City?

It's close enough, Whitehorse, the capitol of Yukon Territories. Yukon gold rush. How did they get these riverboats from San Franciso or Seattle to the mouth of the Yukon River in Western Alaska, I wonder. Poorer men also got there over the mountains from Skagway, Alaska. Going completely overland was near impossible at the time.


Good job guys. I have never even looked for gold! They really tear up the land mining there now (outside of sight of the main road).

Btw. buy a village while you´re there, most of them are abandoned.

And do´nt miss the "Rifugio Val Vogna" in Sant’ Antonio near Riva Valdobbia. Try the rabbit in wild herbs and a "Papa Celso" red wine! Or the "Grillo Brillo" in Rima! Deer sausage in wine sauce...................you´ll never forget.

True or not, she is the only one of her size which ever was built twice!

No, not a sistership, SHE was built once, than completely disassembled again, packed in 5.000 cradles and sent to the place where she still is in service. There she was assembled again by three brave men and about 250 native helpers.
She served as a "battleship", passengership and freighter. She was sunk twice (the first time by own crew which greased, waxed and oiled her to survive the submerged time!).

She played a important role in one of the best known film movies of all times.

The first two pictures below show the place not the ship! The last shows her "place of birth"
