The price of oil is a useful tool...
Western governments all cry when it goes down as they lose the tax income....
3rd world cry when it goes up....

Some producers have very low costs some are over USD50..
Many producers have no refinerys so are short of the end product that they use that thay have to buy back refined products hence making almost no money...DOH

PS Gold is the gift to the boater.....
All surfaces facing the elements should be gold plated.
All wire and terminals should be gold plated ( like the chip in your PC)
The inside of your engine.
The lenses of your sunglasses ( beaten very thin)
etc
etc

Suglass lenses beaten thin , what to 1/8 inch. (Electronic plating I think you mean)

If you can see through it it is microns, cost 10 cents.

Going out now see yer.

I meant IF gold was cheap that were I'd be using it
and yes it would be thin for your glasses. That technology was/is used in astronauts face shields
I'm not sure how they are created?

(Chips have had gold plated pins for years)

Gold doesnt corrode..surely the solution to many problems

Would you agree it's mostly a fairy tale that those 4300 wells/platforms are in the Gulf only because politicians, tree-huggers and nimby's have prevented access to oil on land?

The first attempts in this country to exploit offshore oil were in California, in the 1870's when they started drilling from wharves that extended up to 1200 feet out to sea. Kerr-McGee Corporation drilled the first well from a fixed platform offshore out-of-sight of land in 1947 (in the Gulf, I assume).

They sure couldn't do it if they had to pay union scale.
