| Maybe it would be fun to have a thread of transom talk What kind of boat are you thinking about payam? On sterdrive boats the transom is between 2" and 2 1/4" (51mm-57mm) thick. Over the last 30 years, on fiberglass production boats it's typically built with a plywood core laminated between fiberglass skins. This is one of the most common problems with 15+ year old boats as water often gets in over time and rots the wood core. I always thought 12 degrees was standard transom angle, but I see in the mercruiser book that 13 degrees is the standard transom angle for fitting mercruiser sterndrives (with 10 to 16 acceptable) Larger outboard boats typically have increased support (added transom knees) to handle the torque of the outboards solely supported there. Inboard powered boats have a thinner transom since the propulsion force isn't coming into play there. Another interesting thing would be a thread of all the atypical transom designs over the years. On powerboats I've played on, in the 70's we often saw the central area popped back a little bit; in the 80's we saw the reverse where pods to the sides were sometimes popped back; now we have the ever present integrated swim platform where the sheer comes down at the transom and the swim platform provides a molded in horizontal surface to add stiffness to the transom. In the broader world beyond what I'm playing with, you also have transoms which are raked forward, transoms that are not immersed but where the centerline continues to above the waterline before terminating... |

- So, No . . . . to those pics . . ![]() Don't know for sure if you are joking though. It could be a language problem, as you started this topic on the ‘‘Boat Design’’ forums you could be serious, so here also this link and if you're land based then it could be this. For serious answers (last two links) to simple questions you can use Google. Or is it blocked in Iran? Good Luck! Angel |

| A transom is the butt of the boat where you bolt your outboard to. That's not a big butt Wynand. Wanna play one up's ![]() Note the heavy stringers there to support the structure...
