Boston, I thought the centrifuge normally came before the filters? Isn't the point of a centrifuge to get rid of the majority of the crude so that the filter doesn't have to?

In this system the centrifuge is used mostly to separate water. I could have bought a larger centrifuge and used it to separate solids but then I'd be cleaning it out all the time. This way just seems a lot easier, less cleaning of the centrifuge and once a year or so changing a few filters.

Ya there are folks who use only a centrifuge but they end up having to take it apart every other day or so to clean it. I was thinking I'd like to be able to pull up, fill the tank with oil and turn on the filter pump. Let it run for a few hours and then check for water in the separator reservoir and look at a few pressure gauges to make sure the filters were still flowing ok.

once I get all the stuff bolted on it really will make a lot more sense

pictures soon

Awesome work, Boston. Can you provide an explanation of what's what and the flow path?

I have this vision in my head of some punk trying to steal your gas

sure

once the tank is filled ( using the same pump as it uses to filter with ) fuel is drawn up from the bottom left bung fitting through the pump head and over to the fluid pressure regulator just to the right of the orange filters ( Fram rock strainers ) there is a overpressure bypass that returns to the upper left bung fitting ( same side in the tank, there is a huge baffle which "almost" isolates one side of the tank from the other ) fuel then moves through the filter canisters at a regulated pressure and speed ( about 30 gallons an hour each filter, 2 filters to a set. Goes orange white and gold through the filters and then up to the centrifuge where it should be about 80 to 85 psi ( that part I'm not so sure about, will take a bit of experimentation to get it all balanced, I might end up filtering through the canisters first then upping the pressure and using the centrifuge on a second pass, depends on how much pressure the canisters can take.)
from the centrifuge fluid looses pressure and falls down a 1 1/2 perforated pipe inside the large cylinder just under the centrifuge. Water collects in the bottom of the cylinder and clean oil rises to the top and spills back into the right hand lower bung fitting completing the process, I hope. Worked in the back yard set up in 55 gallon drums soooo, hopefully it will work in the back of the truck. Should end up being a completely self contained fuel processing system. Now to paint the truck and get my ass a new seat.

glad you liked the tank

cheers

How are you going to keep oil from flowing out the bottom of the separator column and onto the ground along with the water?

there is a piece of clear flexible tubing that hooks onto that location with a ball valve on the end, when the pipe shows water I will be able to drain it without to much mess. the tubing will lay on the bed of the truck along the bottom edge of the tank.

Now watch me forget to hook it up before I fill the tank

I always thought it was "Life's a bitch and then you marry one". I guess I've been doing it wrong all these years.

"Life's a bitch, then you marry one, then she takes everything you have including your dignity and then you die." Somethin' like that.

After the snow storm I will decide the best course of action. But mostly I will be doing nothing.

I will be at the store all day...I'm not expecting customers because of the weather... but hopefully I will get some happy boaters just to chat with.... I still have to drill my customers chrome outboard motor plate and tighten the motor bolts but he has to bring my deposit first. Maybe some orders and such .... and then after work I might hit the pub for some cold beers ıf nothing else comes up.
