Lake Mason is actually in SW West Virginia, close to the capital of Charleston. I can relate with saving the dog though.

Even the Chinese are seeing record LOW temperatures.

Snow disaster leaves 1.6 mln people frostbitten in NW China province
www.chinaview.cn
Quote:
XI'NING, March 1 (Xinhua) -- Severe snow disasters have left 1.65 million people snowblind and frostbitten, 500,000 livestock and wildlife dead and 3.1 million others on verge of starvation in Tibetan prefectures of northwestern Qinghai Province.

Since October last year, consecutive low temperature had gripped the province. The temperature plunged to minus 36.3 degrees centigrade, the record lowest in January in the province, said the provincial meteorological bureau.

In Yushu, Guoluo and Huangnan Tibet Autonomous Prefectures, most of the grassland was covered by snow, usually 16 to 32 cm thick, which had brought great losses to local animal husbandry.

In the disaster-stricken prefectures, 130,000 people had run out of fuels, 350,000 people in need of food and 110,000 others short of warm clothes or quilts, said the provincial government.
...

Winter storms have also plagued southern China since mid-January, leading to widespread traffic jams, structural collapses, blackouts and crop losses in 19 provinces, leaving 129 people dead and causing 151.65 billion yuan of losses, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs.

Adequate fresh frozen meat to feed the Olympics visitors?

That was all part of the expectation in "Global Warming" - strange isn't it... with increased warmth, the level of atmospheric moisture increases creating more potential rain events and in cold dry regions this turns into devastating blizzards

I guess one could rightly expect lots more of this kind of catastrophe, and elsewhere, along with extremely hot weather periods like around Adelaide at the present around 14 days above (your USA archaic system) 100 degrees Fahrenheit...

Sorry Per, I couldn't resist - red herrings and stuff

Mas,

"Sorry Per, I couldn't resist - red herrings and stuff "

As the scorpion said to the frog as they were both drowning, because the scorpion had stung the frog. "It's in my nature!"

Florida is predicted to be under water soon. That is the real reason I started to re build this boat. Just call me New Noah My wife thinks it's for fun times when I retire. I think I'll tell the mortgage company I'm not going to pay any more because I heard that my house will be under water soon, and Jim said I'll be able to dock my boat behind his house in Midland, Texas.

So it's true then - Global Warming is a good thing!! We can blame everything on Global Warming!! Does that include the Weapons of Mass Disappearance in Iraq? The sun melted them all away!! Anyone told the 'shrub' yet??

He is still in "denial" which even the combined efforts of the FBI, CIA and KGB cannot convince the fool otherwise... More in a few minutes... back from some domestic duty... as per some reports in the news here.... - the denial seems all encompassing...

I passed through a web site with a "Test your IQ - Mr shrub has an IQ of 125" did the decimal place get lost or is this American anal-ysis evaluation supposed to make dolts look good too???

This has nothing directly to do with global warming, but I just found out about the Great Pacific Ocean Garbage Patch, which is interesting. The picture is a bird that ate bottle caps until it died. Other than illustrating Darwins theory that if you're that GD stupid you deserve to die, it is just a cheap trick to get your attention.

Interesting..........time to start 'farming' plastics I believe, and recycling properly!! (absolutrly NO chance - "out of sight out of mind")

Aosl interesting to note that the Master (it's a civilian ship NOT a warship - Captain is a Military rank) needs to wear his rank badges in the middle of the Pacific - don't the rest of the crew know him then?? Or is he so unsure of himself..............................in which case...............

I was quite bothered when out both lobster & crab fishing, (seperate boats & areas) with my Newfoundland friend, to see him toss the plastic from the bait boxes into the water. Sure, there are not a lot of people there, but it still has an impact. I'm no greenie, by any stretch of the imagination, but believe in being responsible and considerate of the enviroment. The Earth is not a garbage can. My state, Pennslyvania, has garbage coming here from as far away as California. Seems the waste industry is controlled by the mob. Other than Lousiana (sp?) we are the most corrupt state in the US. I call us, PA, "the state of corruption".

I guess the "Captain" is in fancy dress for the pic & the crew his slave - er wife??? all in the name of publicity and selling the story for a few dollars... I am aware of stories from cruising yachts of moving areas in the south pacific where floating garbage seems to accumulate - mostly relating to stories of large numbers of "thongs" (common asian/pacific safety boot) all being of the left foot in one are and when finding another area of flotsam, the difficulty in finding the matching colour thong for the right foot... The zone seems to be E of Solomon Islands / Vanuatu & N of Fiji / Samoa...
