Westerbeke engines

I have heard that Westerbeke is not an engine manufacturer but a relabeller/reseller. Not that I think there is anything wrong with that; there are plenty of Craftsman brand tools in my shop.

But I have to wonder if there is any way of finding out who the manufacturer of a given engine is, and if so, could it be less expensive to buy some parts from the manufacturer then from the reseller?

So does anybody know what company Westerbeke buys from now?

Oh, and for what its worth, I can recommend the Westerbeke 30B three. It has taken more abuse from me than any engine deserves and just keeps coming back for more.

thanks,
snakefeet
