| The fact that this programme is so popular ,is a damning indictment of the dumbing down of the education system in our country. I for one am ashamed to see it beamed around the world as suitable entertainment for adults. Banning it, and the attitudes portrayed in it,from our screens would be a worthwhile contribution to road safety |

"All right, stop that now, it's silly!" Granted, I don't watch UK TV (or US if I can avoid it), but given what else is on, I find Top Gear to be both interesting and entertaining. Further more, I have yet to see them do anything truly dangerous on the road.. Their more extreme stunts (football with cars, launching cars at a dartboard, blowing them up, etc) are exclusively done on the track or in safe locations away from he public roads. I find it telling that I enjoy the show and I don't even like cars! |

| I liked it when they got all miffed after being told they had won a Grammy for the best 'unscripted program'. Apparently it takes them hours to write out all their 'off the cuff' remarks and ad-libs, and lots of 'takes' to get the timing right. Similarly all their 'dangerous' stunts are managed by some of the best safety professionals in the business. The floating truck was built by some very reputable boat builders with input from a well known designer. The safety flotilla that followed them across the channel could cope with any eventuality, including lifting the completely water logged truck out of the water to prevent any possibility of oil or fuel spill contamination. It's the BBC - they have the talent, skill and resources to make the 'amateurish-ness' look authentic. Luckily it's a formula that sells well around the world and is their best money spinner. What I don't like is the undertone of bullying that permeates so much of what the three presenters get up to. |

| I disagree ,their best money spinner is an extortion racket called the TV licence ,it would be a real challenge to successfully explain this concept to our American friends. As for Monty Python ,bit like the curate's egg really ,but a couple of minutes with "precision drilling " the parrot sketch " or " the lumberjack song " usually cheers me up ,anyone unfamiliar should Google them. | I dunno, Top Gear is pretty popular on this side of the pond too, and we don't have TV licenses here. |
