On a sinking ship its always women and children first into the lifeboats..
Is it because they attract sharks...and they are wanted as far away as possible when the ship sinks?

Norwegian Dream

Hi guys, just found this story about the Norwegian Dream cruise ship:

http://gcaptain.com/maritime/blog/?attachment_id=655

The damage she has suffered due to wave slamming is really impressive! Three big waves have been enough to crush the bow of that steel beast!

Well Daiquiri, in university one of our oceanography textbooks was Willard Bascoms book
" waves and beaches" . In this text book is the account of a world war II aircraft carrier captain describing " surfboarding " down the face of huge wave on the approach to the Straits of Bonifacio in a winter gale. Impressive.

read the comments - it's another ship. the text is about the norweigan dawn, while the picture is of the norweigan dream after hitting a container ship

Now that makes more sense.

A blurb about the original CNN report:

This is a nice educational video, makes you understand how severe hogging and sagging can be, why are cyclic loads and fatigue so important and why the hull girder has to be strong! Enjoy!

The boat got pushed down to 123' before we were able to get her back to the surface fortunately by some miracle both watch standers were not washed overboard but the deluge did ruin most of the electronics in the control room and put about 4' of water in the torpedo room bilge. Needless to say we cut the cables going up to the bridge equipment and secured the hatch. If i ever experience 50 deg rolls again it will be too soon. That was one helluva ride.
i take my hat off to you, i am not brave enough to go into a sub, what do you mean by dynamic dive, did the wave push the sub down, probably a silly question but i would like to know.
