Blue Water Round the World Cruising Rally arrives in Sri Lanka:
Lanka a safe country, say tourists

COLOMBO: The Blue Water Round the World cruising team consisting yacht cruising tourists from Scotland, Australia, Belgium, Greece, Canada, Germany, France, England, Sweden and Norway arrived at the Galle Harbour.

Tourists participating in the rally said they were delighted to be in the island where they met very friendly, smiling and hospitable people everywhere.

They said the visits to Kandy and Sigiriya were interesting. "Especially the greenery in the central hills is full of freshness and everything there made unforgettable memories of a beautiful Sri Lanka for ever in our minds," they said.

The team members most who are familiar visitors to the country since the past few years through the same rally, said they always felt secured to be in the country and in their experience, the country was perfectly safe.

The implication of the article being that there's a perception that Sri Lanka is unsafe, and so the tourism bureau is writing press releases to the contrary?
There's a story here that isn't being told, somewhere, somehow. Why the article?

Someone probably foolishly thought people who frequent this site actually go sailing or cruising instead of just posting and reading on the internet.:)

I was several times in Sri Lanka for my job.

The main dangerous area is in the area of Jafra in the north of the island.

Anyway each day there are conflicts btw. naval forces and tamil boats.....

Interesting to see this thread this week. I'm halfway through the 2001 quadrilogy by Arther C. Clark and I just noticed that he wrote those books while living in Colombo, Sri Lanka. :p

Of course, that was 20-30 years ago.
