No matter what the subject, someone outside the US will get around to badmouthing American foreign policy; someone inside it will start badmouthing his fellow Americans as liberals; Boston will jump in to take a few gratuitous swipes at capitalists, politicians, whites, the American military, Santa Claus and Thanksgiving turkeys...

Screw it. Trying to stay away from the forum didn't work. Just trying to read the threads and keep my mouth shut doesn't seem to be working, because I have an urge to correct erroneous or hateful posts. So I have a new plan. I'm not clicking on any threads from now on unless they're directly related to boats or boating.

Back to the drones. I think they are possibly the one thing Obama has done right but there is a bigger picture here I hope leftists bank away and pull out when they think of "baby killer" presidents: Barack was the most anti-Gitmo, anti-war president in history... then he got elected. Somewhere, he had an advisor that said "just shut up about Gitmo - you are not qualified to voice an opinion." He had the DOD explain the facts of life to him about military matters, and he went from "we'll go into there with my overwhelming skills as a Commander-in-Chief, get Osama, and get out" to actually kickin' ass in the protracted battle that it is. What do we learn? That we don't have all of the information unless we get in the Whitehouse so don't critisize the guy in there for being a hawk.

any fool can cut and paste Troy, and there's more to that article than just the snippet you coppied. Estimates range from 59% to 6% civilians killed in drone attacks, needless to say the 6% comes from the CIA, just happens to be in charge of the drone attacks. The 59% figure comes from news international which is a British publication. I don't see anything in this article from the Taliban or Al Quada

A January 2011 report by Bloomberg stated that civilian casualties in the strikes had apparently decreased. According to the report, the U.S. Government believed that 1,300 militants and only 30 civilians had been killed in drone strikes since mid-2008, with no civilians killed since August 2010.[361] The News International, however, states that 59% of the 1,184 people the newspaper says were killed in 2010 were civilians.[362]

Daniel L. Byman of the Brookings Institution suggests that drone strikes may kill "10 or so civilians" for every militant killed, which would represent a civilian to combatant casualty ratio of 10:1. Byman argues that civilian killings constitute a humanitarian tragedy and create dangerous political problems, including damage to the legitimacy of the Pakistani government and alienation of the Pakistani populace from America.[363]

United States officials claim that interviews with locals do not provide accurate numbers of civilian casualties because relatives or acquaintances of the dead refuse to admit that the victims were involved in militant activities.[364]

The CIA reportedly passed up three chances to kill militant leaders, including Sirajuddin Haqqani, with drone missiles in 2010 because women and children were nearby.
