Sea tales

Vaguely fits the catergory I suppose:
years ago -well before you were born - an old friend (long since crossed the Styx) and I had a tradition of sending each other a postcard during our annual holiday. Brevity was the key word.
Mine was a motoring holiday - so I wrote: 'Piston broke...'
He went sailing: 'Piston sunk....'
Think about it in an English accent.
