I'm not going to make any friends with these words.
There is no way these words are going to justify Hans death.

We have this Dutch saying "De beste stuurlui staan aan wal" or translated "Best sailors are ashore" meaning everybody has an opinion, but we were not there when it happened.

I am the first to go for safity, but I can't judge what happened aboard ABN Amro II, simply because I wasn't there at that very moment.

(skipped 90% of what I typed before. Could tell you what I heard from people close to him, but they weren't there too.)

Simply Bad Seamanship

Sorry Guys, this is simply Bad Seamanship

Although rules should not be necessary, they are. It has been shown over and over that laws and rules and regulations is the only way to keep discipline, sadly enough, a serious accident will have to happen before something is done.

Having been a sailor in the Navy, kayak surfer and avid lover of being on the water just as you all are as well. We all know it dosnt take but a minute to done a kaypoc or flotation device. Even in pro bass fishing on flat lakes you see those guys wearing a light flotation device. Now be that said I will still morn the loss of a fellow sailor. My thoughts and wish's to his family for there loss.
